Sometimes a lack of vision is what stops people from achieving greatness. I was fortunate enough from a young age to have an extremely strong vision of what I wanted to become. I can remember clearly that I wanted (A) To be a black belt and (B) To have a muscular physique.
I knew that setting the goal of black belt was something that I could train for straight away, regardless of age and I was lucky to have parents that supported me throughout this journey. Having this clear vision helped me to achieve my goal of black belt at tender age of 10 years old. I truly believe that martial arts has played a major role in shaping me into who I am today.
A muscular physique on the other hand wasn’t something I could really develop in my younger years. It’s not safe to lift heavy weights when your body hasn’t fully developed so I was patient and simply trained bodyweight exercises as a child and teen.
I can vividly remember writing out exercise programmes (which consisted of press ups, sit ups, planks and stretching) in my bedroom at the age of 8 years old. I used to come home from school everyday when I was a teenager and train my abs for hours! You can even see from my photoshop booth picture that a muscular physique was something that I wanted from such a young age. I had the choice of so many photos that day (my Brother was photoshopped as Indiana Jones) but I remember choosing to be a bodybuilder without even a second thought. I knew this was something I’d achieve one day and I knew that nothing would stop me from achieving my VISION!
Sometimes a vision can be deep rooted from a young age. Sometimes it occurs much later in life. Timing really doesn’t matter as long as you take action!
